"Coach Pikiell has led our men's basketball program with consistency while representing well the values and ideals of Stony Brook University athletics," said Athletic Director Jim Fiore to goseawolves.org. "He is a highly motivated and talented leader, who is building our program with class and integrity for long term success. I couldn't be more excited about the future of Seawolves basketball with Steve at the helm."

Carbon Monoxide Sends Hockey Team Home Early

Instead of playing a consolation game on Sunday at the ACHA National Championships, Newsday first reported the team left Cleveland before playing because of a Carbon Monoxide scare in the rink.

"The carbon monoxide situation was alarming since it's something that was dangerous and an area where none of us had knowledge in," Senior Assistant Captain Dan Capizzuto said via Facebook. "They had the fire dept come to our hotel at midnight and test our oxygen levels to make sure we were all right," he continued.

"As for the game Sunday, it would've been nice to play another game, especially against a team we never played before, but the rink was still not safe to be in so we decided to head back home," he said.

More Stony Brook Basketball Videos

Bryan Dougher hits a floater in the lane off an in-bounds play early in the game against New Hampshire.

Another offensive set for the Seawolves in the middle of the first half.

36-3?!?!?!

Baseball took a beating today in Florida. Don't have the media guide in front of me but I think that may be some kind of record.

Stony Brook- New Hampshire Videos Part 1

There are a few more coming, but somehow it just went from 2:00am to 4:00 so I think the rest are going to have to wait.

The shoot around before the game. They looked like they were really ready to go.

Pregame introductions

A Marques Cox three pointer early in the game. This may be the rarest and most valuable bit of footage we've ever recorded.

J-School Exlusive

It's 12:30 and DJ Rivera is at Fridays. What's he doing out so late? Can Kevin Broadus keep his team under control? Slightly joking but it is late.

Live Blog. Stony Brook v. New Hampshire Second Half

Stony Brook v. New Hampshire

11:24

El-Amin gets a decent look from three with a chance to tie the game.  The way the Seawolves played all game they were lucky to get that opportunity.  But there was no repeat of the BU game.  El-Amin's shot was well off and Stony Brook goes home early.

11:15
Stony Brook gets the steal, but cant convert. it's been a game of missed opportunities for the Seawolves.
11:12
D. Young just hit a three to cut the lead to 4 with 1:56.
11:06
Stony is down 6 with 2:44 left. Rocky theme song is playing. You know what that means.
11:02
Tough break for Stony. Tommy Brenton almost had a steal jumping in front of the pass, but gets called for a foul. My take: Bad Call
11:01
Nice defensive set there,  and El-Amin takes a jumper and gets fouled. He needs to hit these ft's
10:59
Ok, its go time. The lead is 9 for New Hampshire. 5:08 left, if Stony wants to come back they need a stop right here after a nice El-Amin lay-in. They need to play good fundamental basketball here.

10:58
Dougher just a nice take to the basket to cut it to 8.
10:55
Things are not looking good. Stony Brook is down by nine with 6:37 left. They are missing layups, and not getting good looks.

10:50
Pikiell is coming out with the full court press.

10:44
Stony just showed their suffocating defense, forcing a shot clock violation on UNH

10:43
Dougher just missed a circus shot. Pikiell is livid. UNH hits another 3. But El-Amin answers with one of his own. He has 12 points.

10:41
UNH misses a wide open three pointer, but Dallis Joyner does not box out underneath a UNH player gets an easy put back. UNH hits a three, and just like that Stony is down by 10. Timeout Pikiell.

10:35
Stony is down by five. El-Amin just hit a nice shot. 52-47, 15 minutes to go

10:30
Second half underway.

Halftime Anaylsis

Foul trouble really hurt Stony Brook in the first half. They were forced to play 5 guys who most likely don't practice together. Also, they were a step slow on defense. I wonder if this was because they were exerting so much energy on offense, something they do not do often.

I also think the team is using Danny Carter the wrong way. He should be sitting in the corner waiting for threes, not posting up at center.

Key Stat
-UNH is hitting 50% of their shots

Live Blog. Stony Brook v. New Hampshire

Live Blog Stony Brook v. New Hampshire brought to you by Carl Carrie and Gene Morris

10:12
Cox has set his season high in shot attempts-4. Its the end of the half. Stony is down 42-38. Dougher leads the team with 12 points. El-Amin has 7, and Cox has a season high 6 points.
10:10
Goba just got a big rebound and put it in after an El-Amin miss. He's out their for his size, Stony is getting killed on the boards.

10:08
Stony usually holds teams to 42% shooting, UNH is now shooting 57%.
Gene Morris Commentary: These five guys probably haven't played together all year, this could pose a problem. Carter, Dougher, Cox, Goba and Carter are the five.

10:06
Wolfie just did a Michael Jackson routine with the dance team. He's a crowd favorite.

10:04
Dougher just hit a pretty fadeaway. But UNH is about to complete a 3 pt. play. Stony Brook can't trade baskets with teams, they don't have the offensive firepower.

10:01
Dougher takes it strong to the basket, and hits two free throws. Tommy Brenton draws a charge. Gene thinks he could be a future all-defensive team member. Now Dougher draws a charge. This is the kind of defensive intensity that the Seawolves usually play with. Down by five, 4 minutes left. 33-28

9:57
El-Amin with a pretty move spinning to the hoop and drawing the foul. 3 point play.

9:53
El-Amin just tried to get too fancy and gave the ball away. I think Stony has to get back to their kind of game. They've given up a lot of points, 28 in only 12 minutes.

9:49
We have a Danny Carter sighting. He might have a big game. With Stony driving to the basket so often, Carter can wait in the corner and hit threes. He has a sweet stroke.

9:48
Bryan Dougher just hit a three, Stony has a 1 point lead.

9:46
Pikiell is clapping so hard his hands are going to fall off by the second half.

9:44
D. Young just got called for his third foul. He's one of their more athletic players. Brenton, who just came in for Young just had a nice lay-in.
9:42
Dougher just took it to the basket instead of settling for a 3. It's something we haven't seen from him.
9:39
The Stony Brook band is the loudest and most into it band we've seen all day. They should be a big help.

9:36
Chris Martin just checked into the game. This is his first game back after the death of his father. He just took it strong to the basket and scored.

9:34
New Hampshire is playing some tough defense. Marques Cox is playing with aggressiveness we haven't seen all year on the offensive end.

9:32
Before the game, Coach Pikiell showed the players a movie called "Shining Moments," which highlighted some NCAA moments, including Cinderella teams. This team is just 3 wins away from making the tournament. The team is pumped, but still looked loose during warmups.

9:31
The game is underway and Stony Brook is off to a fast start. Marques Cox hit a three to score the first 3 points, and Dallis Joyner went up strong to the basket for a layup and converted on the foul shot.

Fan Support

The Stony Brook fans are out in full force. Almost as many fans as Binghamton, and 1000x more than on the New Hampshire side.

Binghamton Post Game Wrap

Mayben trailed behind his two teammates and coach when entering the media room. He was hobbling and took his time to get to the podium.

Obviously, the first question was, "Hey Tiki, how's your hip?"

"Let me answer that one for him," Coach Broadus cut him off. "He's fine, and he's practicing tomorrow morning at 6am."

Looking back towards Mayben, "Whatever boss says," he deadpanned.

Mayben also said it was a previous injury that he hurt the last time they player Hartford, and he just fell harder this time.

"I'm gonna ice it, stay off my feet tonight, and play tomorrow."

Also from Broadus, which we've been hearing all season.

"That was America East Play at its best - it's a war."

Hartford v. Binghamton.. The Live Blog (Don't forget to check Gene's posts live from his Iphone below)

Hartford v. Binghamton Live Blog....

8:51.
Bing wins 73-65. Malik Alvin leads them with 29 points, including 15-18 from the line. Mayben had 21 and 5 assists. D.J. Rivera had a double double with 12 points, 11 rebounds.

8:50
D.J. Rivera just stole the ball from von Rosenberg. Binghamton looks like its going to close this one out. von Rosenberg, the graduating senior from Hartford just left the court to a nice ovation.

8:48
Hartford just hit back to back threes and cut the lead to six. Binghamton has to hit free throws now.
8:45
I felt like I time warped back to the time of NBA Jam 99. Bryant Reeves, or his twin brother something Montgomery is on the court.

8:44
Mercifully, he was taken out.

8:43
This is bad coaching by the Binghamton Coach. Mayben  is crouching on the ground stretching his back.  He should not be on the floor.
8:36
I don't know why Mayben is in the court right now, but he's dishin' and swishin', like Clyde Frazier would say

8:33
Wolfie is in the building!

8:30
Gene taking over for a bit...
This one's still a 15 point game with 4:45 remaining.  The Stony Brook marching band has assembled at the top of the bleachers on their side of the court.  They basically double the number of band members and fans that Hartford has all by themselves.

It'll be interesting to see how loud they get when game time comes around.

And here comes Willis Reed, I mean Tiki Mayben, running out of the tunnel to play in a blowout.  It's not second guessing if you say it's a bad idea before something happens, right?

8:27
Tiki had 19 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. He was one of the best players on the court. If he can't go if Binghamton advances it's going to be tough for Bing to replace his production.

8:24
Scary moment for Binghamton. Tiki Mayben is down on the floor underneath  the basket in serious pain.  He walks off the floor under his own power holding his back. I'd be surprised if he isn't done for the game. He's going to the locker room.

8:17
Hartford can't by a shot. They've missed about four straight threes.

8:14
D.J. Rivera looks like he wants to take over the game now. Took it strong to the basket, and got to the line, but couldn't convert on the three point play.

8:10
Bing is going to be a tough matchup for anyone because they have three guards who can really score. Alvin now leads them with 17 points, and he's their third best guard. Bing has a 17 point lead, 49-32 with 9:50 left.

8:05

Coach Pikiell and the Seawolves are walking into the building now, and the Binghamton fans welcome them like you knew they would. Danny Carter waved at them.

8:01
Binghamton is really getting to line here. They've taken 20 free throws to Hartford's 5.

7:54
Hartford mounting a little comeback here, down by 6-- 35-29

7:48
Hartford starts with a three and a quick two, and Bing takes a timeout.

7:47
Second half underway here.

7:37
Binghamton looks to have taken a commanding lead in this game and Hartford just doesn't have the firepower to mount a comeback here.

7:34
A Binghamton fan just got tossed for throwing a water bottle at a kid with an Albany shirt on.

7:30
Halftime, Bing is up by 13.  Mayben is Bing's leading scorer with 12, and von Rosenberg leads Harford with 9.

7:26
Albany has taken a 13 pt lead after two Mayben free throws

7:20
Binghamton fans are in full force. The Hartford cheerleaders are screaming right in front of me, but the Bearcats fans are drowning them out.

7:16
Mayben just hit another three. He has a nice looking shot

7;14
Tiki Mayyben just hit is first shot of the game and the Binghamton crowd goes nuts.

7:10
Britney Spears "Circus" is the most overplayed cheerleading/dance song of all time. Please stop making music Britney.

7:02
This is a very one sided game, but Hartford somehow still has  a 2 point lead. Binghamton isn't knocking down shots after Hartford turnovers.

6:56
4 straight turnovers

6:55
3 straight turnovers for Hartford. Carry, travel, travel...

6:51
Binghamton is a lot quicker and more athletic. However, the most athletic team here might be the Binghamton Dance Team.

6:48
Hartford is coming out strong hitting their threes. 6-0

6:44
The SEFCU Arena is having technical difficulties with the main scoreboard now. It looks like by the end of this game we'll be playing it with flashlights and candles

6:40
D.J. Rivera is getting the M.V.P chant during warmups. Kevin Broadus, the America East Coach of the Year got a pretty nice ovation too.

6:30
Ok, Hartford now has like 10 fans here. 3 minutes until game time. This sounds like a home game for Binghamton with how many fans they have here.

6:15
The shot clocks on top of the baskets are not working. They put two portable shotclocks on the floor. Lets see if this has any effect on the game. The teams are coming out for warmups. Wee should be underway in about 10-15 minutes.

6:00
Carl here, and I'll be taking you live through the next two games.

Binghamton comes in the heavy favorite in this game, in a matchup of the #1 vs the #9 seed.

Hartford is in this game because of their victory yesterday in the play-in game. They won yesterday behind Jaret von Rosernberg's 21 points-- 18 of them in the second half. He's going to have his hands full guarding any of Binghamton's 3 guards, as they are athletic, quick, and can all shoot, especially D.J. Rivera, who is one of the better players in the conference.

Binghamton has a huge crowd here, taking up 3/4 of their side of the court. As of now, Hartford has no one...literally, no one their student section consists of five Albany kids.

Band/Dance

The Hartford dance team and band are just like their team tonight. Fiesty and a little undermaned.

Playing the popular "da da da da HEY!" arena song, the Bing fans chanted "You Suck!" to the beat. I'm not a music person, but that's embarrassing for the Hawks.

Where are the Stony Brook fans?

That's the question of the hour. Good thing this game isn't starting on time.

Interested Viewers

Maybe it's a red thing, maybe it's because Binghamton doesn't have the cleanest rep, but the Stony marching band is getting ready to unleash, and rooting for Hartford.

A Worthy Competitor

Binghamton's off to a bad start basketball wise, but the dance team showed some heart out there.

Almost gametime?

Still no shot clocks, so another meal on the America East.

Small Issue

About 5 minutes until the final shootaround and one of the shot clocks is malfunctioning.

Another Factor...

Breaking down the dance teams....

BU, who I have seen live in action up in Boston, has a very attractive dance team, possibly the best looking in the conference.

The UMBC dance squad, while not immediately as attractive, had much more diversity on their squad.

BU gave off the vibe of having a bunch of pretty white girls, while the UMBC squad was filled with girls of all ethnicities. UMBC's team even had to deal with the fact that the audio system broke down during their first routine. But they fought through it and put on a great show.

The BU team also had a more provocative routine, whatever that's worth.

But UMBC realized what they needed to do in the second half to lead their team back. They came out sans shirts.

That was the real key to the game.

The Agony Of Defeat

BU Senior Matt Wolff walking to the bus after the game.

UMBC-BU Postgame

Daryl Proctor finished the game with 33 points and 11 rebounds, while senior point guard Jay Green controlled the game, dishing out eight assists. Green did not make a field goal but played 45 minutes and only turned the ball over twice.

Some notable quotes from the post game press conference:

Daryl Proctor:

"It's hard to beat a team three times, especially in overtime. We already knew (we were going to win.)

On the final shot in regulation:

"It was either me or Jay taking that shot. I had the ball in my hands and I just shot it."

On whether or not he thinks about the possibility of this tournament being his final games...

"I just go out there and say, 'This is not going to be my last game.'"

Coach Monroe also brought up the same point that Coach Pikiell has all season long.

"Every game is a dogfight. This was a typical America East game. It's almost like WWE Smackdown on Friday nights.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Binghamton and Hartford are just warming up now, the Stony Brook band should be performing at 7:00pm. We hope to have something about the game and the band. Check back later.

UMBC-BU

The Retreivers and Terriers played 2 lopsided games earlier this season, but todays America East quarterfinals was an instant classic. UMBC's Proctor took over late and has helped flip the landscape of the America East upside down.

That much anticipated Vermont-BU game tomorrow will now actually be Albany-UMBC.

It's march maddness.

And sets up the fact that if the Seawolves win their games the championship will be at Pritchard next Saturday at 11am.

A clutch fall away jumper by UMBCs Daryl Proctor off a broken play with 2.5 seconds left sends BU and UMBC to overtime. The fans certainly got there moneys worth today.

Well maybe not those Vermont fans who left rather quickly earlier today.

Session 1 Update

A thrilling early afternoon game between number 2 Vermont and number 7 Albany ended with a big upset for the Great Danes.

The late game - Boston University-UMBC - is going down to the wire as well. BU is up 4 with 1:31 remaining in the game.

An update and the going ons between the two sessions will be up shortly.

Day 1 over

We couldn't find the shoot around today, bad communication on our part.

We'll be at SEFCU tomorrow at around 3:00, waiting for the Stony Brook fans to arrive.

Binghamton-Hartford tips off at 6:00pm. Stony Brook-New Hampshire should begin a half-hour after the completion of the first game.

Also, check out the Stony Brook Independent for some videos from this morning because I forgot to turn the mic on.

Stony Brook Hockey Concludes Home Schedule, Honors Seniors Serse and Capizzuto

Although the team is waiting for the final AHCA National ranking to be released on Friday to decide their postseason faith, the team finished it's final home games of 2009 in strong fashion.

After defeating Maryland 9-2 on Saturday night, the team followed it up with a 4-0 shutout of Montclair State University on Sunday afternoon.

The team also took the time to honor graduating seniors and team leaders Angelo Serse and Dan Capizzuto.

General Manager Chris Garofalo:

"They're irreplaceable. They played with a lot of heart and fire, something that you can't teach. Something that every coach wishes they had. They gave me 4 good years, if they put that same intensity in their lives they'll be really successful."

Assitant Coach Peter Hall:

"They meant so much to this team. They had two different styles. Angelo's was fiery, hard, fast. Dan's cool and calm. You always need two guys like that on the team."

Defenseman Phil Borner:

"They're great players, great teammates. There's not much more you can ask for out of a teammate. They played their hearts out for four years, I just hope I can do that too, it's an amazing feat."

Goaltender Derek Stevens:

"It's been a fun 3 years. They're two really friends, great people, and great hockey players."

Mrs. Serse and Mrs. Capizzuto:
"We're going to cry. I just think it's a great organization, we've been here every game for the last 4 years, we haven't missed a game. It's very emotional."

"Very good set of boys, they're like brothers. Dan and Ang have been together, I remember the first day they dormed together, they hit it off like brothers and they've been together ever since."

And from the players themselves:

Angelo Serse

"Since freshman year this organization has gotten a lot better, there's a lot bigger fan base, it's getting big right now. Unfortunately I'm leaving at the wrong time. It's been fun. All the guys that came through here and joined me, a bunch of great guys. I'll definitely be back (as a part of the organization.)"

Dan Capizzuto

"I just like to thank everyone, it's been a very positive experience here at Stony Brook. It was fun, and I'm definitely going to miss Stony Brook, it was a great education and great hockey."

Men's Lacrosse Set To Host #1 Virginia

# 1 Virginia Cavaliers (2-0) @ Stony Brook Seawolves (0-0)
Saturday, February 21, 1:00 PM
LaValle Stadium

The Men's Lacrosse team open's their season on Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Virginia. Virginia is ranked #1 in the Nike/inside lacrosse national poll.

The Seawolves will put a young team on the field, returning only six starters, will depend heavily on the continued maturation of two Canadian sophomores, Jordan McBride and Kevin Crowley.

Head Coach Rick Sowell had some interesting comments about the season last week.

On the opening of the season...

“Take one game at a time, with Virginia coming in, their either one or two depending on what poll you look at, and that’s what we have first.”

On the early season schedule ...

“Playing at home, you hope to feed off the energy from the crowd. We play some of these big games early, hopefully the weather will be kind to us.

“We are a team in transition, and having some of those games at home is great, but at the same time, we have to learn how to play on the road too. We really cant let home or road affect us too much. But hopefully we can take advantage of that (crowd energy).”

Thoughts on his team early on...

“So many new faces, getting everyone experiences, we have to play some freshmen. Getting some guys back from injury is going to help the burden. How well we get them acclimated to playing game speed, experiences, playing in tough games and pressure situations, that’s our biggest challenge.

“We don’t have a ton of depth. Our front lines are pretty good, but we’re still working on the depth. We’re one of those teams that if one or two guys get hurt, its really gonna affect us.”

Seawolves Style Makes Them A Serious Contender

Sitting in fourth place in the America East, just under three weeks away from the tournament in Albany, the Seawolves should feel pretty good about themselves.

The three teams in front of them, Vermont, Binghamton, and Boston University, have all but locked up the top three seeds in the tournament. They are the three highest scoring teams in the league, and use their skill to attempt to run the other teams out of the gym.

But the tough, number one ranked scoring defense of Stony Brook may be the equalizer. As is the fact that the Seawolves were just seconds away from defeating all three of these teams. Stony Brook went to four overtimes with Boston University, missed free throws down the stretch in an overtime loss to Binghamton, and yesterday took conference leading Vermont to overtime on the road.

Vermont, who averages over 77 points per game on the season, was held to 55 in regulation by the Seawolves. Binghamton averages over 70 points per game, and Stony Brook held them to 52 points in regulation. And Boston Univerisity was held to 56 points in regulation, although they average nearly 69 points per game.

Playing these top teams as tough as they have should give the Seawolves confidence that they can do it on a neutral floor. And if Dougher, Martin, or El-Amin catch fire and start draining shots, the Seawolves have a legitimate chance to get to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.

Seawolves falls 69-64 in Overtime.

Ranked number one in the America East, the Vermont Catamounts put up 14 points in the five minute overtime to defeat the Seawolves 69-64. Head over to the official Seawolves athletic site for more info.

Men's Hoops Heading To OT in Vermont

Another nail biter for the Seawolves. Bryan Dougher hit a mid-range jumper with 5.7 seconds left to tie the score at 55. Vermont is #1 in the America East, and this just adds to the list of close games for the Seawolves.

Club Hockey: Season On The Line

A late goal in the second period has given Iowa St. a 4-3 lead over the Seawolves heading into the final period of play. Stony Brook pulled off the upset last night, winning by a score of 5-3.

No one can really guess how the final coaches poll will turn out, but a second win against a Top-5 Iowa St. team would go a long way towards moving the Seawolves up from #18 to the 16th and final spot.

If they don't make it to nationals, the opening five game stretch and last Saturdays loss to D-II William Paterson will undoubtedly be the reasons why.

Sights and Sounds From Boston University

Starts off with the pre-game introductions...

... and it didn't end after 40 minutes thanks to a buzzer beating three-point shot by Muhammad El-Amin

Chris Martin's strong play in the third overtime period nearly put the Seawolves in the win column, but a tough BU team was able to fight back and win after four over times.

The Quote Says It All

After a thrilling 99-97 contest between the Seawolves and the Terriers, Coach Pikiell's opening statement at the post game press conference couldn't have summed up the game any better.

"Im exhausted. What a game. It's a shame somebody had to lose. Boston did a great job, they made big plays down the stretch, so did we."

- Stony Brook Head Coach Steve Pikiell

It continues...

4th ot coming up. Tommy Brenton is having a monster game, 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Instant Classic

79-79 midway thru the 3rd over time.

Slipping Away

32-23 with 15 minutes left, SB is 0-9 on FG attempts in the second half

Live from Boston...

... where the BU Terriers lead Stony Brook 28-23 at the half. Demetrius Young leads the team with 6 points in only 6 minutes of action. And the BU student section is amazed by the large physical stature of Des Adedeji. If only they knew the whole story.

Men's Basketball falls to Maine at Home

Coming off of a televised defeat at the hands of the Binghampton Bearcats Monday night, the Seawolves came into Thursday night's game looking to improve their conference record to 2-1. The Maine Black Bears had other plans.

Despite strong performances by Muhammad El-Amin, who earned America East Player of the Game honors, and Demetrius Young, who contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds, the Seawolves struggled on both ends of the court and suffered their second loss in as many games after winning three straight.

"We forgot what got us to 8 wins," said Head Coach Steve Pikiell, "And that is our defense." The Black Bears came out firing, scoring in transition and building an early double digit lead, which swelled to as much as 18. The Seawolves shot a mere 31 percent from the field in the first half and were down by 11 at the break. The Black Bears, on the other hand, had little difficulty putting the ball in the basket, constantly scoring in the paint and shooting 64 percent from the field in the first half.

The second period provided a steady diet of the same, with the Seawolves constantly misfiring and allowing the Black Bears to score easy buckets on the other end. The Seawolves cut the lead to 12 at 50-38 with 8 minutes to go, finally showing signs of life to the 900-plus fans in attendance. But the lead quickly ballooned back to 17 as the Black Bears converted on a 3-point play and fastbreak layup to put the game out of reach.

From the tip, it was evident that the Black Bears had a different drive, an energy that the Seawolves did not match for 40 minutes. The Seawolves were outhustled, out-muscled, and frankly shocked by the scrappy Black Bears, who were picked to finish 8th in the conference by the Coach's Preseason Poll. The Seawolves had beaten the Black Bears the previous three times the two teams met, a streak the Black Bears convincingly ended Thursday night.

"Every league game is a war," said Coach Pikiell, who also shot down any notion of underestimating the Black Bears. "We just didn't play D and we got what we deserved," he added.

The Seawolves travel to Dartmouth on Tuesday, looking to get back in the win column and regain their defensive tenacity.

Seawolves Set For America East Home Opener

Maine Black Bears (5-9, 0-1 AE) @ Stony Brook Seawolves (8-6, 1-1 AE)
7:00pm, Pritchard Gym

Previous game: L 67-60 at Binghamton, 1/5

The Black Bears are led offensively by junior guard Mark Socoby, who averages 12.9 points per game and was an all third-team America East selection last year.

The teams other big offensive threat is true freshman Gerald McLemore, who comes into the game averaging 12.5 points per game. McLemore's scoring average leads all freshman in the conference. Stony Brook's Bryan Dougher is just behind him with an average of 12.4 per game.

The Seawolves look to continue its great defensive play. Stony Brook is first in the conference in scoring defense, allowing only 59.3 points per game, which is four points better than the #2 team.

They are also first in 3-point field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to only 30% from beyond the arc.

The other key to Stony Brook's success has been the way they have protected the ball. The Seawolves average turnover margin of +3.64 is far and away the best in the conference. Contributing to that is Stony Brook's conference leading 8.7 steals per game.
