The Men's Lacrosse team open's their season on Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Virginia. Virginia is ranked #1 in the Nike/inside lacrosse national poll.
The Seawolves will put a young team on the field, returning only six starters, will depend heavily on the continued maturation of two Canadian sophomores, Jordan McBride and Kevin Crowley.
Head Coach Rick Sowell had some interesting comments about the season last week.
On the opening of the season...
“Take one game at a time, with Virginia coming in, their either one or two depending on what poll you look at, and that’s what we have first.”
On the early season schedule ...
“Playing at home, you hope to feed off the energy from the crowd. We play some of these big games early, hopefully the weather will be kind to us.
“We are a team in transition, and having some of those games at home is great, but at the same time, we have to learn how to play on the road too. We really cant let home or road affect us too much. But hopefully we can take advantage of that (crowd energy).”
Thoughts on his team early on...
“So many new faces, getting everyone experiences, we have to play some freshmen. Getting some guys back from injury is going to help the burden. How well we get them acclimated to playing game speed, experiences, playing in tough games and pressure situations, that’s our biggest challenge.
“We don’t have a ton of depth. Our front lines are pretty good, but we’re still working on the depth. We’re one of those teams that if one or two guys get hurt, its really gonna affect us.”
